Thoughtfully designed and crafted this 2 storey home consists of a rammed earth first floor with a lightweight timber frame and marine grade standing seam external cladding on the upper floor.
A suspended concrete floor is supported on the rammed earth with covered balconies to the east and west. All concrete is by using 100% recycled aggregate - an important feature of all our homes since 2018.
A combination of active and passive solar, thermal mass, insulation and double glazing attribute to a highly energy efficient building providing year around thermal comfort.
This home is energy neutral, powered by the sun through solar, battery backup with any excess feeding into an electric car. Hot water for domestic and hydronic use is by way of heat pump courtesy of Comfortheat.
The staircase, internal door jambs, vanities, part of the kitchen and balustrades are all made from blackbutt hardwood reclaimed from the demolition of the previous home.
Lowering carbon emissions, authenticity, low maintenance and a well aging palette of materials were important as well as an individual, bespoke approach to design details.
Rock excavated from site has found extensive use both in structure and landscape. Form and function has a biophylic approach and places this home beautifully within its coastal landscape.
