The brief for this building was to create family accommodation catering for pets with a strong leaning towards ecological sustainability. The construction is of stabilized earth brick with polished concrete and bamboo floors.
The building was designed as a chemical free home with a solid pine kitchen with milk paint finish and recycled hardwood including the truss and entrance door. The feature rock wall with integrated shelf and lights adds thermal mass while the raked ceiling in the living area with hoop pine lining helps keep the structure cool in summer.
Energy efficiency is addressed by the endless solar gas boosted hot water system and the grid connected photo voltaic power generating system, and a reed bed waste water system coupled with low maintenance and water use landscaping and gardens helps to conserve water.
